  <title>The Future of OpenStar</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=52</link>
<description>The time has come to think about the future of the OpenStar project and the distribution it provides. With PN8 looming on the horizon some decisions need to be made in order to ensure that we still provide a valuable service to the community but also focus out (unfortunately limited) time and energy on areas where it actually makes sense.

  <title>OpenStar 4.03 released</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=41</link>
<description>OpenStar is a value-added PostNuke distribution which aims to extend the functional coverage of PostNuke by including and integrating 3rd party modules in order to expand the capabilities of the default PostNuke distribution.

This release contains almost 200 Fixes and Improvements as compared to the 4.02 release. If you are running a previous version of OpenStar, we advise you to upgrade to this release.

Release 4.03 features the following significant news and additions:
- Finnish Language Pack Added
- French Language Pack Added
- New Module: v4bAccounting
- New Module: Thumbnail
- New Module: WhatsNews replaces pnTresMailer
- New Extension: AJAX support package added

In addition to the above, a significant number of fixes have gone into our v4bProjects module. While it's still not perfect, the basics now seem to work OK so that it now makes sense to actually report bugs (which we will then fix).

  <title>Module Generator Updated</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=38</link>
<description>We've updated our module generator (available at here) with a round of fixes. The module generator now generates code which (through the use of conversion script) can run on PN 0.8 MS1. We've also extended it generate all used localization strings so that the ugly language constants don't show up anymore and applied a few minor formatting fixes.

We hope that these changes help make the module generator into a useful tool for the PN/OS development community.

Please report any bugs on our forums.

  <title>PostNuke Security Advisory 2006-1</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=31</link>
<description>This PNSA-2006-01 applies to all versions of the OpenStar distribution:

DESCRIPTION
PostNuke is an Open Source, open-development content management system (CMS). PostNuke is still undergoing development, but a large number of core functions are now stabilizing and a complete API for third-party developers is now implemented. The PostNuke CMS Development Team was notified by secunia.com about a vulnerability in the adodb database abstraction layer.

VULNERABILTIES
Arbitrary SQL code execution via adodb (when db-user is 'root' without password)

SOLUTION
It is recommended that all admins check for the following files and folders and remove them if found:
/includes/classes/adodb/server.php
/includes/classes/adodb/cute_icons _for_site
/includes/classes/adodb/PEAR
/includes/classes/adodb/contrib
/includes/classes/adodb/session/old
/includes/classes/adodb/tests

Securing the whole /includes/classes directory from web access provides an extra layer of security, by protecting against potential as-yet undiscovered security risks in libraries.
The following .htaccess file, placed in the /includes/classes directory, will secure the directory (Download):

order allow,deny

deny from all

The main packages have been updated, the hash sums for the PostNuke CMS Platinum Edition 0.761a are:

PostNuke-0.761a.tar.gz

  <title>Looking for Translators</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=30</link>
<description>OK, we've made it through the first few months of our existance without any major mishaps and seem to have quite a few (mostly happy) users out there. As we're planning for the new year we're full of cool ideas. One of things we would like to achieve (and which we can't do on our own) is to make OpenStar available to a wider audience by providing it in more languages.

So, if you speak a language other than English or German and would like to contribute to the OpenStar project we would invite you to translate OpenStar to whatever language it is you speak. If you come up with a complete translation to another language we'll adopt your translation packet and make it available for download on the OpenStar site.

So if you're interested in helping out in further internationalizing OpenStar, please either PM me, append a comment to this message or use the forum to make yourself heard so we can see how/if we can organize something.

Thank you

  <title>OpenStar adopts Integration Modules</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=27</link>
<description>As you may or may not know, Cas Nuy, the developer of many great integration-modules has decided to end his involvement with PostNuke programming. This means that his integration modules are now essentially orphaned and are looking for new maintainers.

A few of these modules have found a new home at the OpenStar Project. These modules are either already bundled with OpenStar or have been tested in larger deployments. The specific modules are:

pnATutor: ATuror Integration Module
pnMatis: Mantis Bug Tracker Integration Module
pnSugar: SugarCRM Integration Module

These modules will be available from us for Download and we will also take care of their future development/maintainance as required to keep them functioning with future versions of PostNuke.

  <title>OpenStar 4.0Gold package update</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=24</link>
<description>If you have downloaded any 4.0 Gold packages before Sunday 6-Nov-2005 12:00 (CET), we stronly advise you to re-download the current packages and copy those onto your server. While there are no functional changes (other than 2 minor v4bJournal fixes), we discovered some relatively massive packaging problems which can lead to crashes under certain situations. Due to this issue we decided to rebuild all the download packages with the appropriate packaging fixes.

If you need to update such an installed package, you only need to overwrite the existing files with the files from the new 4.0 package. Please realize that these updates do not contain code changes; it is the same code with only the file encoding/formatting being changed. </description>

  <title>OpenStar 4.0Gold released!</title>
  <link>http://openstar.postnuke.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=23</link>
<description>OpenStar is a value-added PostNuke distribution which aims to extend the functional coverage of PostNuke by including and integrating 3rd party modules in order to expand the capabilities of the default PostNuke distribution.

This release contains more than 25 Fixes and Improvements as compared to the 4.0 RC3 release. It should be relatively smooth and stable. Furthermore, this release includes a SQL script to configure OpenStar to run on a server which only provides 8 MB of PHP memory to executing scripts. While this release probably isn't perfect (no software ever seems to be so) it should be solid and has been tested on a number of active sites. As such our advice for people running an older version OpenStar is to upgrade to this version.

*Important*: If you have downloaded any 4.0 Gold packages before Sunday 6-Nov-2005 12:00 (CET), we stronly advise you to re-download the current packages and copy those onto your server. While there are no functional changes (other from 2 fixes), we discovered some relatively massive packaging problems which can lead to crashes under certain situations. Due to this issue we decided to rebuild all the download packages with the appropriate packaging fixes.

Furthermore, our new AddressBook (v4bAddressBook) should have it's initial bugs fixed and should be ready for real use by now. Also, our v4bJournal module has been ported to pnRender and the OpenStar object architecture and should not be ready for beta-testing.
